How Botox® Works

The purpose of Botox is to bring back a naturally youthful appearance to aging skin. Facial muscles are used to make facial expressions every day. With time the facial muscles start to leave wrinkles on the face. Permanent wrinkles will start to appear even when the face is relaxed. Botox® was created to make those pesky wrinkles disappear. Botox is used to relax the facial muscles by restricting their movements. When the muscles are relaxed, they can’t create wrinkles that show those unwanted signs of aging. By relaxing the targeted facial muscles with Botox® injections, you are able to provide the skin with a much-needed “vacation” from the creases. This allows for the skin to even out and become more youthful and smooth.

Botox injections on patients can be used to:

  • Create a natural youthful look.
  • Practically wrinkle-free appearance.
  • Give the patient a boost in their confidence.

The depth of your wrinkles and indentations will determine how many treatments will be needed in order to correct and lift them. Our physicians are highly trained and specializes in BOTOX® Cosmetic injections, and the friendly staff is dedicated to meeting any and all of your needs. Depending on the condition of your skin and the severity of your wrinkles, our physicians may recommend that other treatment options be combined with Botox® in order to achieve complete facial rejuvenation, such as derma fillers (e.g., Juvederm® or Radiesse®), peels or plastic surgery.

Some Botox® applications are listed below, but if you have a special concern we always recommend coming in for a consultation to discuss your needs.

BOTOX ® Facial Treatment Areas

  • Softening frown lines and glabellar wrinkles between the brows.
  • Lifting the brow and opening the eyes.
  • Smoothing the bags underneath the eyes.
  • Relaxing drooping cords in the neck (turkey neck).
  • Smoothing deep wrinkles across your forehead.
  • Relaxing the creases of crow’s feet.

  • Lifting the dimpling of the chin.

How long do Botox® injections last?

Botox can last approximately three to four months although some people have been known to go longer before they need to repeat treatment. Once patients start BOTOX® injections on a regular basis, they may realize they can go longer before requiring touch-up treatments to maintain their wrinkle-free appearance.

Are the injections addictive?

Botox itself is not addictive at all. However, some patients love their youthful look so much they want injections often to maintain their youthful appearance. If injections are not kept up, the face will reverse back to showing wrinkles. We recommend a maintaining a regular schedule of treatments.

How long does it take for Botox® to kick in?

It takes Botox three to seven days to completely work. If you don’t see results after the seven day period you should contact our doctor’s office to see if you might need more Botox to get that truly youthful look.

How Botox do I need to see results?

It can’t be said exactly how much Botox® you will actually need. Every patient is different and has distinctive goals. For this reason we recommend you continue to see the same skilled injector for every treatment. Continue to discuss with your doctor how much Botox it will take to achieve the appearance you desire.
